California Pizza Kitchen Story
From A Legendary Pizza To A Global Brand
In 1985, former federal prosecutors Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax combined their passion for food with fresh high-quality ingredients to create innovative hearth-baked pizzas cooked in an open kitchen. The restaurant gave California a place in the pizza pantheon alongside Chicago and New York. The California twist on global flavours resonated with guests and California Pizza Kitchen became a bustling spot for business and family gatherings.
Almost immediately after the first location opened, California Pizza Kitchen expanded from California and is now approaching 300 restaurants in 16 countries worldwide. In the USA, California Pizza Kitchen is also located in major airports, stadiums, colleges and supermarkets with a premium Oven Ready range.
The latest step in California Pizza Kitchen’s journey is the transformational “Next Chapter” initiative. Introduced in 2015, the brand transformation elevates the casual dining experience through an inspired approach to food and beverage and best-in-class hospitality.
Hillarys Boat Harbour – Cpk’s Latest Location
The global expansion has recently reached Australia with the first California Pizza Kitchen restaurant being located at the iconic Hillarys Boat Harbour in Perth, Western Australia.
From humble beginnings, CPK has ensured that local concept tailoring is a considerable part of their globalisation strategy. This is no different in Australia and with many similarities between the Californian and Australia’s coastline and lifestyle this concept is a match made in heaven. Much like the picturesque Southern Californian coastline, our first restaurant celebrates WA’s iconic coastline with views of the water from the boardwalk at Hillarys Boat Harbour.
